Established in January 2008, the state of Texas will hold their 2nd annual GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up event from September 28th through October 2nd. The annual event promotes restaurant owners and chefs dedicated to serving fresh, local ingredients and pouring great Texas wines. During the week long event, consumers around the state will be encouraged to dine out in support of local chefs and Texas farmers and ranchers. The event coincides with the Texas Wine Month in October and is a great way for consumers to experience a taste of Texas.
And what better time to try Texas wine! Recent research now shows wines produced in the Lone Star State share the same anti-cancer traits known to exist in wines from other producing regions. Extracts from two Texas red wines decreased cancer cell growth in a comparable magnitude as other wines previously studied, according to Dr. Susanne Talcott, Texas AgriLife Research food and nutrition scientist.
