The Red Headed Stepchild

The second bottle opened for the Texas Twitter Taste-Off was the Red Headed Stepchild Sangria, produced by La Buena Vida Vineyards, located in Grapevine, Texas. Traditionally, Sangria is a wine punch made by adding fresh fruit to red wine and fruit. La Buena Vida has taken the guesswork out of it and produced a winner! A simply delicious wine sure to be a hit at any party. This happened to be the first Sangria I’ve tasted and will not be the last!

From the label,

Throughout history people have made Sangria or wine punch by adding fruit to wine. Because of this blend of ingredients, Sangria has been seen as the outcast or Red Headed Stepchild of the wine community. At La Buena Vida Vineyards we embrace Sangria and this time held tradition.

I couldn’t agree more. The wine retails for $17.99 and clocks in at 12% alcohol. The wine packaging is as fun as the wine, with a nice illustration on the label. Served chilled, this Sangria is fresh, sweet, and balanced, with a hint of lemon. Cheers!

  1. Hi Heidi,
I will reach out to the winery and see if they still offer. At the moment, it appears they have temporarily closed. More to come…

  2. Brian Kirby, I moved from Grapevine where I used to frequent the La Buena Vida Winery for the sole purpose of having the Red Headed Stepchild Sangria as well as purchasing a bottle every week. Last time I went there, they were closed.
I moved down to Duck Key, Florida this past May and am constantly searching for a similar taste comparable to the Red Headed Stepchild. I can’t find anything like it. I really want the original Red Headed Stepchild, but I don’t know where to find it and a long time ago, I asked about where to find it and they said that they are the only ones who make it. I’m so bummed. Please let me know what you find out about if ANY at all is available for purchase and what I would have to do to get it!
    Thanks,
    Patti Lane

  3. Yes I would like to know too. I have been looking for it too. My husband did a show there years ago but when I went back it was shut down
. Very interested in finding some.

  4. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to track down the Red Headed Stepchild sangria. That said I have stumbled upon another excellent sangria from a Florida winery, Island Grove Wine Company. It’s available at Whole Foods and they also ship. Let me know if you need help tracking it down. Cheers!
