Pend d'Oreille 2007 Bistro Rouge

Pend d'Oreille 2007 Bistro Rouge

Every now and then I sample a wine that brings a smile to my face.  The 2007 Bistro Rouge from Pend d’Oreille Winery is one such wine.  Located in Sandpoint, Idaho, Pend d’Oreille’s vin de pays is produced from Washington grapes.  A blend of 36% Merlot, 28% Syrah, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Malbec, and 3% Cabernet Franc, the claret wine is the perfect accompaniment to practically any occasion or food!  Clocking in at 14.4% alcohol and retailing for $13, the fruit forward wine delivers a terrific quality to price ratio.

An easygoing, fun-loving wine that is sure to be a hit around the table.  I can’t wait to share with friends.  Stay tuned this week for a series of posts focused on the growing Idaho wine industry featuring award-winning wineries such as Pend d’Oreille, Ste. Chapelle, and longtime favorite, Sawtooth.  Cheers!

    Great review!

One question: You called this wine a claret…. how would you say it compares with other clarets? Is it kinda soft and almost diluted?
