Cabernet Franc has always been a staple in my household, especially those from the other 46 states. The Elk Creek Vineyards 2007 Estate Cabernet Franc I recently poured only reaffirmed my feelings for the grape. Garnering a respectable 83 score from the Wine Enthusiast, Elk Creek Vineyards is demonstrating Cabernet Franc has a bright future in Kentucky.
Smoky with a hint of spice, the wine displays rich aromas of black fruit and plum. Cranberries, plums, and black pepper are quickly displaced by flavors of vanilla and red cherry.
A balanced, medium-bodied wine that will pair well with a wide variety of dishes. A bit pricey at $35, but a sure bet to please the Cab Franc lover.

Agreed, Elk Creek has a truly nice Cabernet Franc and one more item, – their very reasonably priced, but ill named Sweet Owen Red was the best Norton wine we found among Kentucky’s eight Norton producers in 2009.
